An unconscious which chains in secret
genetic determination unconquerable but unasked for
environment emerged from but hardly chosen
learning along the way at speeds painfully slow

So much self envisioned
versus so much self that is

To accept is as what is
for the sake of understanding
To seek understanding
to know from where to start

So much self emerging
versus so much self hanging on

The further from now I run
the farther I am from what must be learned
The closer to what I’d leave behind
the more that can be seen how to

So much self becoming
so much yet to go away

To surrender to all that is now
not to accept or condone or to leave be
But to understand what needs done
as time releases what it allows

The overcoming that lies much within the surrender
